eSIM QR Code Not Scanning - Solutions

Having trouble scanning your Roambit eSIM QR code? Here are several solutions to get you connected.

Common Causes and Fixes

1. Camera Issues

  • Clean your camera lens - Use a soft cloth to remove smudges and fingerprints
  • Improve lighting - Scan in a well-lit area, avoid glare on the screen displaying the QR code
  • Adjust distance - Hold your phone about 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) from the QR code
  • Hold steady - Keep your phone still while the camera focuses

2. Screen Display Issues

If viewing the QR code on a screen:

  • Increase brightness to maximum on the display showing the QR code
  • Zoom in to make the QR code larger
  • Avoid screen protector glare on either device
  • Try a different screen - Display the QR code on a computer or tablet

3. QR Code on Same Device

If the QR code is on the same phone you're trying to install it on:

  • Method 1: Open the QR code on another device (computer, tablet, friend's phone)
  • Method 2: Take a screenshot and use the manual entry method
  • Method 3: Print the QR code

Alternative: Manual Code Entry

Every Roambit eSIM includes manual activation details alongside the QR code:

  1. Open your Roambit purchase confirmation email
  2. Find the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code
  3. In your phone's eSIM settings, choose Enter Details Manually
  4. Type in the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code
  5. Tap Download or Add

QR Code Errors

"Invalid QR Code"

  • The QR code may have already been used (most are single-use)
  • Check if the eSIM is already installed on your device
  • Log in to your Roambit account and request a new QR code

"Network Error" or "Unable to Download"

  • Ensure you're connected to Wi-Fi (not cellular data)
  • Turn off VPN - VPNs can block eSIM server communication
  • Disable Private Relay (iPhone) - Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Private Relay → OFF
  • Try again later - the eSIM server may be temporarily busy

"Carrier Plan Cannot Be Added"

  • Your device may be carrier-locked - contact your carrier
  • Your device may not support eSIM - check compatibility
  • You've reached the maximum number of eSIM profiles - delete an unused one first
