eSIM Installation Failed - Error Codes Explained
When eSIM installation fails, your device usually shows an error message. Here's what each one means and how to fix it.
Common Error Messages
"Unable to Complete Cellular Plan Setup"
Cause: Network communication failure between your device and the eSIM server.
Fix:
- Ensure you're on a strong Wi-Fi connection (not cellular)
- Turn off any VPN or proxy
- Restart your device
- Try again after 5-10 minutes
- If using iPhone, disable Private Relay temporarily
"Cellular Plan Cannot Be Added"
Cause: Device restriction or incompatibility.
Fix:
- Verify your device is carrier unlocked
- Check that your device supports eSIM
- Ensure you haven't exceeded the maximum eSIM profile limit (usually 5-10)
- If recently unlocked, restart your device for changes to take effect
"Unable to Activate Cellular Plan"
Cause: The eSIM profile was downloaded but can't connect to the network.
Fix:
- Enable Data Roaming
- Toggle Airplane Mode on/off
- Manually select a network operator
- Wait up to 24 hours for server-side activation
"No Connection to Server"
Cause: Your device can't reach the eSIM provisioning server.
Fix:
- Check your internet connection (try opening a website)
- Switch to a different Wi-Fi network
- Temporarily use a mobile hotspot from another device
- Disable firewall or DNS filtering apps
"This QR Code is No Longer Valid"
Cause: The QR code has already been used or has expired.
Fix:
- Check if the eSIM is already installed on your device
- Log in to your Roambit account and check your eSIM status
- Request a new QR code from your account dashboard or contact support
"Error While Adding eSIM" or Generic Errors
Cause: Temporary software or server issue.
Fix:
- Force restart your device:
- iPhone (Face ID): Press and release Volume Up, press and release Volume Down, hold Side button until Apple logo
- Android: Hold Power + Volume Down for 10-15 seconds
- Try again after 15-30 minutes
- Try using the manual activation code instead of QR scanning
After a Software Update
If your eSIM stopped working after a system update:
- Restart your device first
- Check that the eSIM is still listed in Settings
- If it's listed but not working: toggle the eSIM off and on again
- If it's missing: contact Roambit Support - we can issue a replacement
Prevention Tips
- Always install eSIM on a stable Wi-Fi connection
- Turn off VPN before installation
- Keep your device's OS up to date
- Save your activation code/QR code - don't delete the email until installation is confirmed working
