Manual eSIM Installation Using QR Code

If automatic QR code scanning doesn't work, there are several alternative ways to install your Roambit eSIM.

When to Use Manual Installation

  • Your camera can't focus on the QR code
  • You're viewing the QR code on the same device you want to install it on
  • The QR code was sent as a link, not an image
  • You're in a low-light environment

Method 1: Manual Code Entry

Every Roambit eSIM comes with an activation code in addition to the QR code. You'll find this in your purchase confirmation email.

The activation code has two parts:

  • SM-DP+ Address (server address) - e.g., prod.smds.roambit.io
  • Activation Code - e.g., K2-1ABC23-DEF456

On iPhone:

  1. Go to SettingsCellularAdd eSIM
  2. Tap Enter Details Manually
  3. Enter the SM-DP+ Address in the first field
  4. Enter the Activation Code in the second field
  5. Tap NextAdd Cellular Plan

On Android:

  1. Go to SettingsNetwork & internetSIMsAdd
  2. Tap Download a SIM
  3. Tap Need help? or Enter activation code manually
  4. Enter the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code
  5. Tap Download

Method 2: Copy-Paste from Email

If you received your QR code via email and are viewing it on the same phone:

  1. Open the Roambit confirmation email
  2. Find the manual activation details section
  3. Long-press and copy the SM-DP+ Address
  4. Open Settings and navigate to the eSIM installation screen
  5. Paste the SM-DP+ Address
  6. Go back to the email and copy the Activation Code
  7. Paste it in the corresponding field

Method 3: Display QR Code on Another Screen

If you only have the QR code image:

  1. Open the QR code on a computer monitor, tablet, or another phone
  2. On your target device, open the eSIM scanner
  3. Scan the QR code from the other screen

Tip: Increase the screen brightness on the device displaying the QR code for better scanning.

Method 4: Screenshot and Scan

On newer iOS and Android versions:

iPhone (iOS 17+):

  1. Screenshot the QR code
  2. Open Photos and select the screenshot
  3. Long-press on the QR code in the photo
  4. Tap Add eSIM

Android (varies by manufacturer):

  1. Screenshot the QR code
  2. Open Google Lens or your camera app
  3. Select the screenshot from your gallery
  4. Scan the QR code from the image

Troubleshooting Manual Installation

  • "Invalid activation code" - Double-check for typos, especially with similar characters (0 vs O, 1 vs l)
  • "Server unreachable" - Ensure you're connected to Wi-Fi and VPN is turned off
  • "Profile already downloaded" - Each QR code/activation code can typically only be used once. Check if the eSIM is already installed in your SIM settings
