Roaming Not Working Abroad - Troubleshooting Steps
Arrived at your destination but your Roambit eSIM isn't connecting? Follow these troubleshooting steps to get online.
Before You Troubleshoot
Confirm these basics:
- ✅ Your Roambit plan covers the country you're in
- ✅ Your plan hasn't expired (check in your Roambit account)
- ✅ You still have data remaining on your plan
Step-by-Step Fix
Step 1: Enable Data Roaming (Most Common Fix)
This is the #1 reason roaming doesn't work. Data roaming is often disabled by default.
iPhone:
- Settings → Cellular → tap your Roambit eSIM
- Toggle Data Roaming to ON
Android:
- Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Roambit eSIM
- Toggle Roaming to ON
Step 2: Set Correct Data Line
Make sure your phone is using the Roambit eSIM for data, not your home SIM:
iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data → select Roambit eSIM
Android: Settings → SIMs → Mobile data → select Roambit eSIM
Step 3: Airplane Mode Reset
- Turn on Airplane Mode
- Wait 15 seconds
- Turn off Airplane Mode
- Wait 30-60 seconds for the network to connect
Step 4: Manual Network Selection
If automatic network selection fails:
- Go to your eSIM's network settings
- Turn off Automatic network selection
- Wait for the list of available networks to appear
- Try connecting to each listed carrier one at a time
- Some may show an error - just try the next one
Step 5: Restart Your Device
- Power off completely
- Wait 30 seconds
- Power on
- Wait for the network to register
Country-Specific Issues
Countries with Internet Restrictions
Some countries (China, UAE, Iran, etc.) have internet restrictions that may affect eSIM services:
- Your eSIM may take longer to activate
- Some services (Google, social media) may require a VPN
- Contact Roambit Support before traveling to these destinations
Remote Areas
- eSIM plans rely on partner network coverage
- In rural or remote areas, switch to manual network selection
- Try switching between 4G and 3G for better coverage
Dual SIM Conflicts
If you're using both a physical SIM and eSIM:
- Temporarily disable your physical SIM:
- iPhone: Settings → Cellular → primary SIM → Turn Off This Line
- Android: Settings → SIMs → primary SIM → toggle off
- Test if the Roambit eSIM connects
- If it works, re-enable your physical SIM and ensure data is set to Roambit eSIM
When to Contact Support
Contact Roambit Support if:
- You've tried all steps above and still can't connect
- Your account shows the plan is active but it won't work
- You're getting error messages not covered here
- You need coverage confirmation for a specific location
