Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
How to set up two-factor authentication on your Roambit account for enhanced security using an authenticator app or SMS.
Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your Roambit account. Even if someone obtains your password, they can't log in without your second factor.
What is 2FA?
When 2FA is enabled, logging in requires two things:
- Your password (something you know)
- A verification code (something you have - from your phone)
This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access.
Setting Up 2FA
Option 1: Authenticator App (Recommended)
Supported apps:
- Google Authenticator (iOS / Android)
- Authy (iOS / Android / Desktop)
- Microsoft Authenticator (iOS / Android)
- 1Password (built-in TOTP support)
Setup steps:
- Log in to your Roambit account
- Go to Account → Security
- Click Enable Two-Factor Authentication
- Select Authenticator App
- Open your authenticator app
- Tap + or Add Account
- Scan the QR code displayed on screen
- Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app
- Click Verify & Enable
Option 2: SMS Verification
- Go to Account → Security
- Click Enable Two-Factor Authentication
- Select SMS
- Enter your phone number
- Enter the verification code sent via SMS
- Click Verify & Enable
Note: Authenticator apps are more secure than SMS. SMS codes can be intercepted in rare cases.
Backup Codes
After enabling 2FA, you'll receive 10 backup codes. These are one-time-use codes for logging in if you lose access to your authenticator app.
Important:
- Save these codes in a secure location (password manager, printed copy in a safe place)
- Each code can only be used once
- You can generate new backup codes at any time from your security settings
Using 2FA to Log In
- Enter your email and password as usual
- You'll be prompted for a verification code
- Open your authenticator app and enter the 6-digit code
- Or enter a backup code if you don't have your app
Disabling 2FA
If you need to turn off 2FA:
- Go to Account → Security
- Click Disable Two-Factor Authentication
- Enter your password to confirm
- 2FA will be removed from your account
Warning: Disabling 2FA reduces your account security. Only do this if necessary, and re-enable it when possible.
